Roman copper alloy headstud brooch. The object is quite corroded, but there are traces of enamel in places. The head hides a tubular crossbar that accommodates a hinge pin (now missing). The headstud shows some traces of heavily damaged enamel in a conical hollow; this is inferred from a hole in the reverse which reflects the form of other headstuds. The bow is rectangular in section, and a trace of blue enamel shows that the decoration probably consisted of rectangular enamel cells that became smaller as they approached the foot.
