Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast hinged Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth type CD H 4.a.  A plate 56, no. 2467. Almost plain tubular wings - there is a thin wavy oblique moulding on the front of the wings on either side – clenched behind retain an axis bar and the stub of a pin. The bow, of indented rectangular section, clasps the wings and bears three pronounced longitudinal ridges separated by deep gutters; the bow tapers towards the foot [lost]. Copper alloy brooch. A small cast Colchester derivative brooch with a sprung rear-hook fastening [spring lost], Mackreth type CD RH 5.k. Semi-circular or concave wings open behind are clasped by a plain bow of rounded section with the broken stub of a rearward-facing hook on the top of the bow. The bow tapers towards a plain foot though only an area of roughened texture may indicate the former position of a catch plate. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman Wing and Fantail, Humped Type Brooch. The plain semi-cylindrical wings once housed a spring pin mechanism, though all of this is now missing. The humped bow is D-shaped in section and is decorated with a central vertical groove with a zigzag line inside it. Midway down the bow is a moulding with transverse incised lines and a rib above and below. The brooch terminates with a plain trapezoidal foot with a complete catchplate on the reverse. A complete cast medieval gold stirrup-shaped Finger-Ring. The D-shaped hoop rises to a pointed bezel set with a small rectangular sapphire. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of the ring at the British Museum indicated a composition in the range of 81-85% gold, 8-10% silver and 5-7% copper. The width is 21mm, the height is 28mm and the weight is 6.48g. Similar rings have been found at West Lindsey, Lincolnshire (Treasure Annual Report 1998-1999, no. 110), and at Norton, North Yorkshire (Treasure Annual Report 2000, no. 98).
