A fragment of a silver sheet huntsman's whistle. The whistle is tapering in form and the widest end is broken and flattened. The slit on the top of the whistle is intact and there is an attached loop on the bottom. A maker's mark appears on the top of the whistle, perhaps DL in a shaped shield. The owner's initials underneath the mouthpiece are illegible. The whistle is probably 17th century and has parallels with a similar whistle in the Treasure Annual Report 1998-9, no.242 from West Sussex. The length is 30.78mm and the width is 13.6mm.

Silver possible watch winder. A composite object with three linked and formerly adjustable components linked by tiny [diameter] 4.2mm] ball joints. A central round-section bar has a medial collar flanked by waisted shanks, each expanded at its outer end. The ends each receive - whether as separate or integrally cast elements is uncertain - a spherical component with a slot occupied by a thin hinged lug whose surface matches that of the spheres. At one end, this would permit the movement of a plain hollow tube of internal diameter 1.5mm and with wall of 0.7mm thickness. At the other en…

Description: Two fragments of an apparently silver mount, probably from a vessel. The mount is made from thin silver sheet, and consists of a long corrugated band with a scalloped lower edge. Four pendant scallop shapes survive, two still attached to the band; each one has a punched aperture of diameter 1.4mm, probably for attachment to the edge of the vessel. The larger fragment retains part of the straight band which is decorated with five parallel ridges apparently pressed from the back and with hollow reverses; the central ridge is broader than the rest. Treasure referece 2018 T367: silver possible vessel mount fragment. A small silver ring, probably a hawking vervel of Lewis and Richardson's type C.ii The ring has a silver shield soldered on to it with the crest of Hansard of London. The crest consists of a cubit arm, erect, cuffed, with a mullet in hand (Fairburn, 186, P.227). Engraved on the ring in capitals is SR.WIL.HANSARD. William Hansard of Biscathorpe was a benefactor of Caistor Grammar School in Lincolnshire. He died in 1631. The hawking ring would have been attached to the hawk's jesses. The diameter of the hoop is 10.75mm.

Silver vervel. A small ring of plano-convex section, with the rounded convex side innermost (Lewis & Richardson Type B). This would ensure a snug fit on the leg of a bird without risking injury. Its size may suggest this was for one of the breeds of falcon, which were raptors trained to take smaller birds. The flat outer face bears an incised inscription rendered with separate letters in a hand-written style, and with prominently seriffed capitals. It reads: LORD + SHEFFELD *. Tightly folded up silver band, now in two pieces. The larger part of the band is tapering towards one end, although the tip of that end broke off in antiquity. The other, wider end is where the smaller, separate part of the band snapped off recently. The larger part of the band is decorated with punched dots framing the edges and running in an arching pattern across the band. Two faint, incised lines are inscribed into the dotted arches. The use of the band is unclear. Its original length as well as thinness make it unlikely to have been a finger ring or similar. …

Possibly a talisman, a flat oval object made from white metal - perhaps made from a later medieval penny or halfpenny coin, though no sign to identify it remains - with a circular suspension hole of diameter 4.3mm close to one edge. Particular coins might be selected for suspension because of their political or religious associations - as with those of the notably pious Lancastrian Henry VI ('martyred' in 1471) - though the custom continued into the Post-Medieval period with piercing or folding of coins as 'love tokens'. Unidentified item of jewellery of early Anglo-Saxon date. The object is a melted fragment of silver, with both faces having the wrinkled surface resulting from the melting and congealing of metal. Silver unidentified object. A small, probably cast, flat-sided annular object, resembling a cog with a series of twelve rounded 'teeth' interrupted by a short [3mm] straight bar. This might have been taken to indicate the loss of another tooth or two were the central aperture not also slightly expanded towards the bar, which is its only departure from an otherwise circular form.
