Silver coin. Denarius of Tiberius (AD 14-37), kindly identified as the ‘tribute penny’ by the finder, Spink no. 464, citing RIC. Vol. 1 no. 30, though that coin is not a denarius.
Obverse description: Bust laureate right.

Reverse description: Figure seated right with vertical sceptre and branch.
Reverse inscription: possibly PONTIF [MAXIM]

A silver Roman denarius of Tiberius (AD 14-37), dating to the period c.AD 14-37 (Reece period 1). PONTIF MAXIM reverse type depicting a Female figure seated right holding long vertical sceptre and branch. Mint of Lugdunum. Cf. RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 95, nos. 26, 28, 30. The coin is pierced at 7 o'clock on the obverse by a rounded hole of diameter 3mm driven from the obverse side. In view of this, the object is to be subjected to the Treasure process, ref. 2017 T327.
