Copper alloy possible strap fitting. A cast oval-ended plate with a raised central zone bearing a pair of outwardly angled pyramidal lugs. At the centre of the flat reverse this piece is apparently brazed to a thinner metal strip; what remains of the latter is now of sub-rectangular form. The reverse surfaces of both elements bear transverse file or wear marks inflicted after they were joined together. No parallels for this object have been encountered. Though a Late Iron Age date cannot be ruled out, a Roman date is speculatively proposed: 43-410.

Possible Strap Fitting. Two oval loops joined in the middle by a wraparound strip; it appears that separate elements were combined for this object to then be cast in one piece. These details appear only on the display face, the reverse is flat. The central union is so robust as to suggest heavy strain or wear was anticipated, and its thickness also forbids identification as a buckle. The outer parts of the loops are worn, and slightly twisted. Objects of this form were not located by a brief trawl of Romano-British metalwork, so an Anglo-Saxon date is speculativel…
