Copper alloy and iron shotgun component. Copper alloy mechanism comprising a kinked rectangular section bar with a flat oval plate and another two objects, one lost, attached to it by steel spindles passing through lugs permitting them to pivot. Copper alloy shotgun cartridge extractor: a tool for removing a cartridge jammed in the breech of a shotgun. This procedure was more usually necessary before the introduction of automatic ejection systems. The tool would only be worn until required, when the three bevelled prongs would afford a grip on the metal base of a cartridge and a twist of the wrist would dislodge it. The numeral 12 is stamped in the flat face where the base of the cartridge would rest, indicating this version would serve a 12 bore shotgun. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1930. Internal diameter: 19mm, Band w…

Copper alloy possible gun fragment. A curved cast lentoid-section guard with an integral tongue-shaped spatulate component end downwards at one end, where a square-section lug projects in towards the loop, and with a shorter U-shaped projection at its other end with its curved end upward. The larger U-shaped part has a square hole countersunk at its flat end with a central hole of diameter 3mm which may continue through the squared lug behind it. The finder kindly suggests this object to be from with the trigger mechanism or trigger guard of a gun. The grey tint presumably arises from…
