Copper alloy and iron possible rove. Cast diamond-shaped copper alloy plate with a border gutter and plain front. Rust marks the passage of an iron rivet through the centre of the plate. The finder kindly suggests a function as a mount and a possibly medieval date; the latter might be better supported had a lighter copper alloy rivet been used. The heavy fixing may hint at attachment to leather, perhaps horse harness. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1500
Length: 25.6mm, Width: 17.5mm, Thickness (clear of rivet): 3.1mm, Weight: 5.43gms.
