Sherd of Staffordshire Slipware, probably from close to the edge of a plate or platter. Off-white fabric bears creamy yellow base glaze with dark brown decoration, on one side only - reverse is unglazed. The sherd bears a motif of vertical lines –or possibly lettering – between two zones of marbling. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1750.
Finder’s reference: This sherd was found 46 years ago (i.e. 1964) in a field outside the village, around the time of the finder’s marriage, and was retained as a keepsake.
