Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire

Probably a cast lead disc pendant, of Post Medieval date. The circular disc is blank on the reverse except for a narrow incised transverse line. The front face is decorated in relief with a pseudo-nummular design. In the centre is an asymmetrical cross-potent with a central boss. In the arms of the cross are four heart-shaped devices made up of two strands. Around the edge of the disc is a fictitious inscription. A hole has been drilled through the disc leaving a burr on both sides. The diameter of the disc is 25.4mm, the thickness is 2.3mm and the weight is 18.33g.

Copper alloy possible pendant fragment. Cast object, perhaps part of the suspension for a pendant, though whether on harness, a strap or belt, or for other use is uncertain. An oval-ended lug bears an off-centre perforation of diameter 2.3mm; below the lug the object is bifurcated, and there is the possible edge of a further hole across which one side of the object may have broken. Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1200-1600. Length: 16.3mm, Width: 7.8mm, Thickness: 6.9mm, Weight: 2.70gms.

Copper alloy, with white metal plating Possible pendant. Pressed metal sub-rectangular frame with small suspension loop at one end and a central cross piece or divider. At the other end, two tiny annular discs and one tongue-shaped element appear to be attached to the reverse, and appear intended to clasp a thin flat object, perhaps a picture or a coloured plaque. Traces of white metal plating are retained. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950. Length: 24.3mm, Width: 12.5mm, Thickness: 0.7mm, Weight: 0.84gms.

Curvilinear designs in relief appear to retain traces of degraded enamel, now yellowish; the finder sees a bird in this design. The reverse is painted black. Perhaps from a badge or costume jewellery. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950. Diameter: 18.1mm, Thickness: 1.1mm, Weight: 1.34gms.

Copper alloy Swivel loop or terminal (finder suggests). Cast ring of round section, with one side formed by a smaller ring of square section set at right angles to the larger loop. The latter is now of variable width, between 2.4 and 1.8mm, suggesting it has been subjected to differential wear. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1700. Copper alloy and blue enamel Possible Verval. A tiny circular pendant. A cast housing with a plain and slightly concave reverse retains fractured traces of thick mid blue glass or enamel. The stub of suspension loop remains. An identification of this object as a ring bezel was considered; however, there is no trace of a hoop or attachment on that side opposed to the remaining lug, which is therefore identified as relating to suspension. Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1350-1600. Diameter: 9.76mm, Length: 10.92mm, Thickness: 2.72mm, Weight: 0.76gms.

Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1400-1700. Length: 22.3mm, Width: 14.2mm, Diameter of wire: 2.1mm, Thickness (ends): 1.3mm, Weight: 1.12gms.

Copper alloy Pendant. Cast cruciform pendant or crucifix. The cross arms are rounded at the ends, save for the uppermost which is flared and flat-topped, and surmounted by a suspension loop. Traces of gilding appear on one side. The object appears to be a Christian equivalent to the hammer pendants favoured by adherents of Thor, and is perhaps contemporary with such objects. Copper alloy with white metal plating. Possible Pendant. Cast cruciform pendant with suspension loop. The arms end in spheres, and there is also a slight expansion towards the foot (now lost). A saltire on one side subdivides the central area, perhaps to represent the breast and abdomen of a human torso, an impression heightened by the side view of this object. Copper alloy and glass Possible Pendant. Loop of wire of diameter 2.2mm with a crimped setting brazed within it; the setting retained an oval ruby coloured transparent faceted glass stone. Used as an ear ring, this object would be brutal to insert, so a function as a pendant is preferred; it is probably at all events a trinket or 'Fairing'. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1900. Copper alloy Possible Pendant or bead fragment; this may alternatively havebeen crimped to retain components of organic or other materials (now lost) - as with a brush, for example. Hollow oval end of an object made from thin copper alloy sheet. The surface is lightly corrugated in a spiral pattern, and bears two opposed circular perforations (diameter 2mm), apparently for its suspension. The sheet metal is raggedly torn, indicating the loss of a further uncertain extent. The survival of this thin metal object suggests a possible Post-Medieval or later date, perhaps 1500-1700. Len…

Thin and crumpled gold disc missing part of its rim and decorated by three irregular cells formed by gold strips soldered upright onto it. Two of the oblong cells still contain inlays. These are (now) dark and it is difficult to distinguish their material, but they seem to be glass. Further dark material is present on the outside of one of the cells. The disc originally seems to have had an upright rim, now squashed, and there is a tear in the front. The back is plain.
