Copper alloy. Lamp hanger, Cast suspension loop with a round aperture of diameter 4mm above a frame formed by three equidistant branches; two branches are broken, probably recently, but the third has a smaller loop with an aperture of diameter 2.5mm bearing angled wear within. There is a further loop at the base of the main or upper loop arm and enclosed by the trifid branches; this appears to have retained a part moving in the same plane as the upper loop and is also circa 2.5mm in diameter. The object appears to be from an unusually complex harness pendant with multiple moving and…

North Lincolnshire Museum displays a comparable, slightly larger, object from Maltby (whether in Lincolnshire or South Yorkshire is not stated), which is identified as a lamp suspender of medieval date. Suggested date: Medieva…

Copper alloy harness lamp hanger, as kindly identified by Kevin Easton, who comments: 'Medieval lamp hanger, not a Roman pendent hanger [there are] a lot of these on the database'. A cast oval section stem with an oval loop at one end and three tapered equidistantly spaced spikes radiating horizontally from its other end; one now shorter than the rest. Beneath the convergence of the spikes there is a pair of slightly incurving lugs to retain a further element [now lost]; from the overall configuration, it would appear that the suspended object had a display plane at right angles to tha…
