Lead alloy or heavily leaded copper alloy. Possible button back, with stubs of a broken suspension loop. This might alternatively be the back of a two-piece disc brooch, with the loop representing pin holder and pin rest; iron staining appears here. A flat face with two small lugs elsewhere displays a bubbled surface suggesting the object has been subjected to intense heat. An irregular perforation also appears to represent damage, and all circumferential edges appear to be cut or sheared. Diameter: 21.82mm, Maximum thickness: 5.84mm, Weight: 4.95gms.

The metal is yellow in colour and entirely without patina, the spring still active and the pin sharp, and – unless a sealed and airtight context can be adduced - the appearance is of a well-made replica. Copper alloy. Cast fragment from head of a little small long brooch of cross potent form; the stub of the plate holding pin survives on the back of the brooch. A heavy brown patina covers the display face, while a paler coating on the reverse might suggest former presence and limited survival of mineral-preserved organic material.
