The block bears three tiny rhomboid lozenges of mid blue enamel. The enamel may suggest this to be from the top of a headstud brooch of Mackreth type Headstud 9. One of two almost identical objects, probably made at the same workshop, reported from this site. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-155 Height: 14.8mm, Width: 17.6mm, Thickness (block): 4.9mm, Weight: 2.04gms

Copper alloy brooch fragment. Drawn wire top loop of strand diameter 1.2mm passing through the two holes in a cast rectangular block. Copper-alloy annular brooch fragment. Cast frame fragment with constriction at its pin seat, from an annular brooch of broad-banded form. A series of tiny [diameter 0.7mm] stamped dots form a border for the display face, but are altogether more crudely executed than the paired incised lines in two paired groups, probably originally appearing to either side of the pin seat. The broad band annular brooch is a very common find from excavated early Anglian cemeteries, but unusually rare amongst reported field finds. This object is severely mangled and broken, as are others of the same dat…
