An incomplete and slightly worn cast copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch. The long semi-tubular deep wings are concave behind and house a spring mechanism. The copper alloy axis bar is held by a rounded pierced lug at the end of each wings and the worn spring has fourteen turns and possibly had a missing rearward claw. The wings are decorated with a knurled rib and the head has a crest with a moulded appendage on either side. Both the wings and head are covered with a thin layer of iron corrosion. Probably an incomplete cast copper alloy Roman bow and fantail brooch. Behind the rectangular head is a semi cylindrical moulding with central slot for the missing hinged pin mechanism. Iron corrosion on the head and wings suggests that the pin mechanism may have been iron. On top of the head is an incomplete integral chain loop. The short rectangular bow steps down to a worn and incomplete triangular leg at a midway point. The surviving length is 27.0mm, the width is 15.3mm and the weight is 2.82g.

The other half of the coils and the pin are missing. On top of the head is a forward facing hook to secure the spring. The plain bow is hexagonal in section and tapers to a plain pointed foot. The tip of the head has an asymmetrically set notch, the sides of which are folded back to secure the pin hinge, one side of which is missing. Copper alloy Brooch. Dolphin Brooch, cast bow with abraded ridges on its crest, surmounting enclosed tubular wings with apparently open ends. A bow of rounded section tapers towards the stub of a catch-plate. It is not clear whether the wings conceal a fine spring, or whether a hinged pin protruded from a slot in the underside of the wings. The bow is bent sharply above catch-plate and the brooch abraded overall. Suggested date: Early Roman, 40-80. The head is plain and has a rearward hook on the top which would have secured the spring pin is place. The arched bow expands midway to a devolved moulded acanthus button with two knurled rubs above and below. The brooch is broken just below the button and the foot is missing. Only a fragment of the catchplate survives. The surviving length of the brooch is 37.6mm, the width is 12.3mm and the weight is 6.98g.

At the top of the head is the remains of a rearward claw. The sides of the wings have the remains of yellow and red enamel cells; however, they are too worn to identify the pattern. The rectangular section bow has a button midway down and has the remains of yellow, blue and red enamel cells. The bow is broken just below the button. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman dolphin type brooch. The semi-cylindrical wings have a rearward claw on the top and would have once housed a spring pin mechanism, though none of this survives. The ends of the wings are decorated with groove containing raised lines. The slightly humped bow has a channel down the centre with a wavy line in the middle. Both the foot and catch plate are missing. The surviving length is 24.2mm, the width is 30.7mm and the weight is 8.11g.

A Roman cast copper alloy. (40-80AD). Complete except for pin. The bow is bent to the backwards and to the right, as viewed from the front, with a slight clockwise twist of the catch plate. Complete tubular wings hold an intact copper axis bar around which the loop end of a copper pin survives, the rest of the pin is missing. A complete cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch in excellent condition. Behind the oval head is a complete spring mechanism consisting of spring of five coils with an internal chord and a pierced lug in the centre. To the left of the pierced lug is a complete copper alloy hinged pin. Tucked into each end of the spring is a copper alloy wire chain loop with a chain loop band decorated on the front with a row of four enamel green triangles. Roman cast copper alloy brooch fragment. Probably Hod Hill type, 1st century AD. Only the head and hinge survives. The rolled head hinge is damaged on the left side and the front and rear copper alloy sheet which form the hinge have separated. The right side of the hinge is intact but the axis bar is missing. The top most part of the bow consists of a longitudinally orientated prism whose section tapers towards the top. The humped bow with sub-triangular section terminates in a pointed foot. A short catch plate,14.8mm in length and 6.3mm in width, is present but with no pin rest. Incomplete trumpet derived cast copper alloy brooch. Both the head plate and foot section are missing along with a proportion of the catch plate. The top of the bow is oval in section which increases in diameter towards an acanthus button. Above and below the button is a collar consisting of three transverse ridges. The upper of the collars is worn. The acanthus is of a devolved type and also quite worn.
