Copper alloy Cruciform Brooch fragment. Possible side or top knob from a cruciform brooch (finder suggests). This object is cast in the round as a very slightly waisted piece, with a scar indicating its attachment to the body of the brooch by a copper alloy pin. The majority of brooch knobs, as illustrated by Reichstein (1975), are more prominently waisted than this example. However, northern Lincolnshire provides examples, as from Cleatham, where this trait becomes less conspicuous, perhaps a result of local Anglo-Saxon manufacture of this form of brooch.
