An incomplete and slightly worn cast copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch. The long semi-tubular deep wings are concave behind and house a spring mechanism. The copper alloy axis bar is held by a rounded pierced lug at the end of each wings and the worn spring has fourteen turns and possibly had a missing rearward claw. The wings are decorated with a knurled rib and the head has a crest with a moulded appendage on either side. Both the wings and head are covered with a thin layer of iron corrosion. Probably an incomplete cast copper alloy Roman bow and fantail brooch. Behind the rectangular head is a semi cylindrical moulding with central slot for the missing hinged pin mechanism. Iron corrosion on the head and wings suggests that the pin mechanism may have been iron. On top of the head is an incomplete integral chain loop. The short rectangular bow steps down to a worn and incomplete triangular leg at a midway point. The surviving length is 27.0mm, the width is 15.3mm and the weight is 2.82g.

The solid cast copper alloy D-shaped section brooch is decorated with three slight transverse mouldings, at the centre, left and right. On the back of the brooch are a pair of perforated lugs by which the pin was originally fixed and only part of the catch plate survives. The length is 38.2mm, the width is 11.9mm,the maximum thickness is 7.1mm and the weight is 11.16g.

The surviving part of the openwork bow is heart shaped and consists of two conjoined loops that each terminates with a circular setting. Although only the white paste of the setting survives, it may have originally been coral. Copper alloy Brooch. Dolphin Brooch, cast bow with abraded ridges on its crest, surmounting enclosed tubular wings with apparently open ends. A bow of rounded section tapers towards the stub of a catch-plate. It is not clear whether the wings conceal a fine spring, or whether a hinged pin protruded from a slot in the underside of the wings. The bow is bent sharply above catch-plate and the brooch abraded overall. Suggested date: Early Roman, 40-80. The large collets are at opposite ends and have a set of two collets between them. Inside some of the collets are the remains of a white paste but none of the settings survive. The frame is divided into bands decorated with a fine net-like design alternating with plain. Looped around a constriction in the frame is a cast copper alloy pin, which has a transverse moulding. The head is plain and has a rearward hook on the top which would have secured the spring pin is place. The arched bow expands midway to a devolved moulded acanthus button with two knurled rubs above and below. The brooch is broken just below the button and the foot is missing. The band has a constriction for pin; however, it is covered with iron corrosion as only a fraction of the iron pin survives. The flat tapering leg terminates with a small triangular foot knob. Behind the leg is a complete catch plate with a large perforation. The length of the catch plate is 22.5mm and the width is 8.7mm. A complete Post Medieval silver annular brooch. The brooch is made up of a slightly convex silver sheet with striated decoration only around the base of the pin. On the back, maker's mark MC. The diameter is 22.5mm, the thickness is 3.1mm and the weight is 2.91g. Without the mark one might be tempted to think this artefact late medieval, but the form of the mark suggests a 16th Century date or later, though the mark is not recorded in Pickford (ed) of Jackson for this century. Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, Western Group), cf.Mackreth 2011, 5.b4. Plate 50. Complete but for the pin and the end of the foot. Bow decorated with a single longitudinal moulding which expands to form a perforated plate through which is threaded the coiled spring. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman dolphin type brooch. The back of the tubular wings have a concealed iron axis bar and a slot in the centre for the missing pin. The front of the wings is decorated with two vertical ribs. The slightly humped bow has the remains of a crest on the top and is truncated at the tapered end. Down the centre of the bow is a vertical rib. The surviving length is 27.7mm, the width is 25.7mm and the weight is 7.38g.

Probably a fragment of a cast copper alloy medieval brooch. The annular brooch is triangular in section and is decorated on the front with a zigzag line with dots on either side. Both ends of the fragment are truncated and none of the attachment survives. The surviving diameter is 29.8mm, the thickness of the frame is 2.7mm and the weight is 2.49g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman trumpet derivative, disc and trumpet bow brooch. The sub-oval head is hollow behind for the missing spring pin mechanism. On the top of the head is an integral chain loop with a copper alloy ring through it. On one side of the head is a red enamel circle and a faint circle on the other side of the head suggests that there was also one there. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman glass centred disc brooch. The gilded oval plate has two concentric panels, separated by a border of two lines. The inner panel is decorated with punched triangles and the outer panel is decorated with punched circles. The glass centre of the brooch is missing. On the reverse of the plate is a single lug with a complete catch plate opposite and the pin mechanism is missing.
