Brown flint with pale buff patina. Irregular lump, with several points and possible retouch. DS regards this as possible burin; MF unconvinced, believing the orange colour to represent natural river-rolling, and apparent working as damage attending this episode. Length: 50.53mm, Width: 33.02mm, Thickness: 15.41mm. David Smith's ref: Site 5.

White and brown iron-stained flint. Sub-triangular flint with ?retouch, finder considers this a possible burin or point. MF dissents: Iron stain may suggest this object to have been river-rolled, which could account for most damage observed. MF suggests. Length: 52.09mm, Width: 27.18mm, Thickness: 11.66mm.

Dark grey flint with cortex, cloudy white patina on struck surfaces, possible awl or borer. Flake with long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a small bulb at one end of the ventral. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect may define a triangular point at one end. The extent of patina may suggest a period of post-depositional weathering. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 37mm, Width: 14.8mm, Thickness: 8.8mm, Weight: 4.19gms.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey-buff flint with cortex, possible borer, as kindly suggested by the finder. A small thick sub-triangular flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Patches of misty patina suggest the object endured a limited period of exposure to a calcareous environment. The patina is removed by very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect to define a short point, in which case cortex may have been retained to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the point. This may indicate either the reuse of an old flake or light and fortuitous da…

Grey flint borer. Flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a smooth concave ventral surface. A point is defined by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along one of its sides. Milky patina on all struck surfaces suggests a long period of exposure to a calcareous environment after deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Length: 32.3mm, Width: 17.2mm, Thickness: 4.9mm, Weight: 2.87gms

Blue-grey flint with cortex, borer. A nodule fragment bearing narrow parallel flake removal scars from unidirectional working which formed a small tapered core. This was reused: the striking platform was trimmed with the removal of wide and narrow scalar flakes to form a point at the edge of its former position. Patches of misty patina over all struck surfaces suggest the object endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment after its final deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Height: 38.3mm, Width: 26.9mm, Thickness: 14.6mm, Weight: 14.83gms.

Grey flint with a soapy feel, borer. Irregular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat rippled ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect defines one side of a short point; the concavity on the opposite side of the point appears battered, probably also from the ventral aspect. Patches of misty patina suggest the object endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 32.9mm, Width: 23.0mm, Thickness: 5.3mm, Weight: 3.64gms.
