Record ID: NLM-F88DB0
Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy ring. Cast round section ring, markedly thinned by internal wear at one point on its band. The form might be associated with the fastening of straps in Iron Age or even earlier times, particularly for sword gear and horse gear. However, material from the Roman period onwards is more prominent among accompanying finds, while patches of black shiny material on the object recall the post-medieval habit of treating metal with oil or lacquer. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1700 Diameter: 17.3mm, Band Width: 3.8mm, Band Thickness: 4.3mm, Weight: 3.72gms
