Lead or lead alloy pommel. A cast pommel with two short moulded arms. An oak leaf motif appears on front and back, rising above the arms. A rectangular impression in the lower end of the pommel measures 7.7mm by 4.7mm, where the tang of a blade was lodged; a similar rebate, partly burred over, lies adjacent, so pommel and hilt were presumably adjusted at some time. Though lead is apt to function as a counterweight, finishing is crude with prominent mould lines. The weapon whence this derives may have been of low or 'ammunition' quality. Lead Alloy, iron Fitting. Cast trapezoid object with protruding pyramidal and curved elements on its outer surface, and a lip on the underside indicating engagement with another object.
