The perforation is set through the approximate centre of the artefact, having been constructed from both sides. A complete glass bead of uncertain, probably post-medieval, date. It is spherical in shape with a circular hole through the centre and is made from an opaque light blue glass. There are a few cracks in places on the outer surface.
When lacking specific diagnostic features and not from a secure archaeological context glass beads are difficult to date precisely as simple beads like this one were in use across multiple periods. A probable post-medieval date is likely, but an earlier date cannot be ruled out as the bead was found in an area that has produced artefacts of multiple perio…

An Iron Age-Roman glass bead, dating 800BC - AD100. This bead belongs to Guido's class 6, Oldbury type.It is made from blue and white glass and is roughly circular in shape, with a hole through the centre formed during manufacture with a mandrel. The white glass forms spirals at various points around the outside of the object. At these points nodules have been formed in the blue glass to emphasise the design. The nodules and spirals alternate between pairs and single features.
