The crude base bears an off-centre perforation which runs along the length of the object (Dia.: c. 7.6mm); the hole tapers slightly towards the top. Around the hole is possibly a circular groove. A cast copper-alloy fragment of uncertain date. It is a broken shaft of square cross-section narrows to terminate in a flattened and rounded end. The metal is a dark red-brown colour with patches of overlying green corrosion product. The terminal is perhaps reminiscent of the eraser end of a stylus. The artefact has been found in vicinity of Late Iron Age and Roman material.

A lead weight of uncertain date in the form of a truncated cone. A perforation runs through the centre of the weight; it is somewhat squared. A complete circular cast lead object, possibly a spindle whorl or other weight. The whorl is biconvex, with one surface having received steeper bevelling than the other. The top is flattened and the base is slightly concave. It is basic and has suffered corrosion. It is seemingly undecorated. The artefact has a spindle hole with a diameter of 6.4mm. The spindle whorl is 7.9mm thick and weighs 16.01g.

The object is circular in cross-section, expanding slightly towards the tip which has been bent inwards (min.: 4.7mm, max.: 5mm) and has been decorated with a raised spiraling median band with two slightly expanded knops at either end. The artefact has a dark grey-patina across the object and the raised band has been worn in places.

It has a circular hole running through the centre. It is 21.7mm in diameter, 15.8mm tall with a hole 5.0mm in diameter at the base and slightly splaying open at the top; it weighs 27.72 grams. Plain spindle whorls and weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are hard to date precisely although most are late medieval/post medieval.

A corroded lead plug for the repair of a damaged vessel. The main element is sub square in shape with a broadly triangular depression on its upper surface. The plug has a groove where it was fitted to the wall of the broken vessel. Retained within it is a very small sherd of grey pottery, possibly Roman greyware, although too little to be diagnostic. Such plugs were in use from at least the Roman period until the post-medieval period, and without the presence of a diagnostic pottery sherd are almost impossible to date closely.

A cast copper-alloy ring, possibly a finger-ring of uncertain date. The ring is polygonal in profile with seven external facets and rounded section, all seemingly plain. The ring has a rectangular cross-section with rounded corners. It is broadly circular internally with a maximum diameter of c. 16.7mm.
It can be compared with faceted Roman finger-rings of Henig type IX/Guiraud type 9a. However, it would be of unusual form if it were one. The artefact has corroded to a variable mid-dark green colour overlying an orangey metal. The composition of the alloy and traces of an apparent …

A corroded, probably incomplete cast copper-alloy rod of uncertain date and function. The rod has a square cross-section and terminates in a square pyramid (8.0mm by 7.15mm by 6.0mm) at one end. The other end has been bent to one side and suffered a break as a result of old damage. The terminal of the pyramid is rounded (blunted) and the piece is worn and has corroded to a variable mid-green colour.

Cylindrical copper alloy ingot with circular cross-section. The object gently tapers from a wider end terminating in a flat angled surface to a rounded, slightly narrower, opposite end. On the wider end there is a small area of abrasion where material was removed for testing by a jeweller before the object was submitted as Treasure. The surface of the object is pitted and slightly worn.
X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface identified the metal as an alloy of copper with a few percent of zinc, lead, and tin. There was no detectable precious metal content.

Flat hexagonal perforated element, lobes at corners, grooved decoration. Undiagnostic and difficult to date, but facture suggests that it is probably pre 1708.
As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
