An irregular flint blade, probably debitage of probable Neolithic date (3500-2500 BC). The blade is irregular in form being broadly sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross section. There are a number of modern hinge fractures caused by roll in the plough soil, and some of these mask crude retouch on the long edge of one face. It is most likely that the blade like flake is a piece of waste flint from tool making which has subsequently been crudely retouched to form a scraper. This is a relatively common phenomenon in the Marches where flint is in poor supply. The flint m…

Blade in high quality black flint. Triangular in section at one end and trapizoid at the other. It has probable cortext covering c.30% of the dorsal face including a patch at the proximal end. It has a snap at the distal end. Bulb scars have removed the bulb of percussion but there are clear percussion waves on the ventral face. About a third of the right edge on the dorsal face, near the proximal end, has short abrupt scaler retouch and the rest of this edge is chipped, probably from use. Probably Neolithic in date. It is 49.5mm by 21.9mm by 9.7mm and weighs 10.90 grams.

A small flint blade. Made on an elongate secondary flake with a patch of pebble cortex on the dorsal face. Distal end has been snapped off, removing the bulb of percussion. There are waves of percussion on the ventral face. There are four longitudinal flaking scars on the dorsal surface, all with marked waves of percussion, indicating the probable use of indirect percussion for flake removal (concentrating the force at a point to make a more precise removal). The blade has a trapeziodal cross section: Date: Neolithic - c. 3500 - 2500 BC Dimensions: 47 mm x 15 mm x 5 mm Weight: 5 g

Part of a knapped flint tertiary blade struck from a core. The proximal end with a prepared platform remains, the rest is snapped away; there is no evidence of deliberate snapping. The bulb of percussion and percussion waves are visible on the ventral face. Multiple blades have been removed from the dorsal face. There is slight chipping down both sides on both faces, possibly from use. Single struck flints are hard to date precisely but the proportions may suggests a Neolithic date (3500-2100 BC). It is 40.6mm long, 21.3mm wide and 5.7mm thick; it weighs 5.21 grams.

A tertiary flint blade with bulb-of-percussion and percussion waves on the ventral face and multiple parallel arises from previous removals on the dorsal face. The striking platform has been lost to a chip and there are several other small chips on both edges. The distal end has evidence of abrupt scalar retouch on the distal face, possibly to snap the blade at this point. Tiny retouch/use-wear continues right to the bottom of this slightly concave distal end, suggesting it was utilised as a tool in this form. The bulb of percussion is quite pronounced on the ventral face, with a bulbar scar above. The dorsal face features three main long removals. The distal end is quite abrupt and retains cortex. It appears that the fine retouch belongs to the sides, one of which is notably straight. The flake curves in profile. It is of a variable grey colour with some off-white patches.

Struck flint blade of probable earlier Neolithic date (3500-2900 BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan and lentoid in cross section, the upper, dorsal, face has a series of longitudinal flake scars, whilst the reverse is plain and flat with evidence of conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion on the ventral face is lost and the edge is snapped suggesting the blade would have originally been longer. The two long edges on the dorsal face have significant areas of retouch; this is relatively fine and suggests secondary pressure flaking to create a fine regular serrated edge. The end…
