A flint blade, a waste flake from flint knapping. The blade is carefully shaped and may be an abandoned perform for a tool. It probably dates from the Neolithic. It is 21.08mm long, 11.33mm wide and 2.82mm thick. It weighs 0.7g. The flint is patinated to a milky colour and has edge damage which is probably post depositional.

A piece of flint that is possibly a worked blade from the Neolithic period. The flint is partly cortical and partially patinated on the left half of the dorsal face and on the ventral surface. It is 39.8mm long, 20.3mm wide and 8.1mm thick. It weighs 7g. There is a clear striking platform. There appears to be some short and abrupt retouch on the distal left side but other removals round the edge may be natural. All the edge removals interrupt the patina.

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Rotherham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint blade which may be Neolithic in date. The blade is sub-rectangular in plan and is partly cortical. It probably comes from a double ended core because the dorsal surface exhibits scars where flakes were removed from both directions leaving a stepped raised area in the centre. It is 37.9mm long, 12.9mm wide and 5.5mm thick. It weighs 2.8g. The right side is cortical but on the left side there are denticulated removals worked from both faces. These interrupt the faint patina on the ventral face.

A flint blade dating from the late Neolithic period, 2500-2100BC. The blade has an exaggerated 'hinge fracture' leading to an unusual groove in the end of the blade. This happens when the core is hit with too much force and too far from the edge of the platform. The blade has two cutting edges and the end looks as though it may have had some use too, as it is retouched. The edges have some damage, probably through use as a cutting implement. The flint is mid-grey in colour. It is 38.48mm long, 17.05mm wide and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 5.28gm.

A flint blade dating from the Late Neolithic period, 2500-2100BC. It is triangular in section with a central rib down the dorsal face. There is (micro) retouch along both edges of the blade, creating a slightly denticulated edge suitable for use as a cutting knife, and around the rounded distal end (this part of the blade may have had a dual purpose as a small scraper). On the ventral (lower) face there is a pronounced bulb of percussion but no retouching. The tool is well made and finished; it measures 44.65mm in length, 18.79mm in width, 5.22mm in thickness and weighs 5.3g.

Large retouched blade, probably Neolithic in date. The flake is sickle shaped and has some crude retouch on the dorsal face. The flint source is likely to be the east coast as it is fairly chalky and white in colour. The blade weighs 20.4g and measures 73.2mm in length, 33.12mm in width and 11.84mm in thickness.
