A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a thumbnail scraper, designed to be held between the thumb and forefinger, formed from a tertiary flake which is D-shaped in plan and section. The ventral surface is smooth with visible ripples of percussion suggesting the hard hammer technique was used in its removal. The dorsal surface displays semi-abrupt, long, sub-parallel retouch around the distal edge and both sides. The flint is a mid-grey colour. The implement is 28.5mm long, 25.8mm wide, 9.5mm thick and weighs 7g. Scrapers are…

Flint scraper of broad Neolithic date (4000 - 2200 BC). The flint is brown in colour and on each side the surface is patinated to white. It is sub-oval in plan and flat-elliptical in cross-section. There is covering, scaled, low angle, retouch to both the dorsal and ventral faces and some short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch round most of the edges. This retouching interrupts the patina suggesting the flint was reused at a later date. The flint is 24.3mm long x 27.9mm wide x 3.9mm thick and weighs 2.8g.

The proximal and distal ends have been abruptly blunted and the right hand edge contains fine, semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is smooth, slightly concave with a small bulb of percussion situated at the proximal end. The lithic retains some cortex and is therefore a secondary flake. The flint is a …

Horse-shoe shaped flint scraper. Retouched at about 45 degrees around 60% of edge, cortex present on back, this is of a type that suggests that the implement was made from a flint cobble rather than mined flint. Made from pale grey, opaque flint darkening towards one edge.
