Early Neolithic to early Bronze Age partially patinated brown flint blade. It has a series of four small shallow notches down one side, and two less obvious ones on the other side. It has been very finely knapped (the thickness never exceeds 2.5mm even at the butt end), appears unbroken, and yet has retouches and wear polish. This suggests a long lived tool that was probably used for fairly light activities, possibly the removal of bark. Dates to between c4000 and c1600 BC. The ventral surface is smooth with faint ripples of percussion radiating from the butt of the implement. The dorsal surface is irregular with numerous negative scars and corresponding arises. Retouch is present along all edges except at the butt. The flint is a dark orangey-brown colour with lighter inclusions. The implement is 37.9mm long, 28.2mm wide, 6.5mm thick and weighs 8.8g. A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date. The implement is a scraper, designed to be held between the thumb and forefinger, which is sub-lozenge shaped in plan with a D-shaped section. The ventral surface is smooth with faint ripples of percussion radiating from a bulb of percussion. The dorsal surface has two negative scars with corresponding arises and a patch, roughly 25%, is coated in a thick cream coloured cortex. Retouch is present along the distal edge of the implement where the sides are very steep. The flint is a mid orangey-brown colour with lighter inclusions.…
