An incomplete, possibly modified, greenstone axehead of Neolithic date. The cutting edge of the axehead is all that remains and is ovate in plan and triangular section. The edges are worn and broken though the remaining original surfaces are smooth. The fragment is comprised of a grey-green fine-grained siliceous tuff - a sedimentary volcanic rock possibly from the Great Langdale quarries in Cumbria. This stone was most probably chosen for its colour and fineness which allowed it to be highly polished. It is likely that axes such as this were high status and probably not functional.…

A complete knapped lithic implement of probable Neolithic date. The implement is a fabricator which is a pointed ovate in plan and sub-triangular in section. The implement has been extensively worked on all sides having numerous flakes of varying sizes removed from each surface. More extensive retouch is evident along both right and left mesial edges extending onto the distal edge which has been worked into a point while the proximal edge has been steeply blunted. Three patches of a mid blue cortex re-growth are present on the surface of the implement, one on the ventral and two on th…

A complete knapped lithic implement of later Neolithic date. The implement is an end scraper, sub-ovate in plan an irregular D-shape in section. The ventral surface is smooth with ripples of percussion radiating from the bulb of percussion and a single negative scar. The striking platform has been removed. The dorsal surface is irregular with elongated flakes removed from the surface. Extensive retouch is present along the distal edge and continues on to the right mesial edge. The flint is a light blackish-grey colour with some small lighter inclusions. The implement is 43.3mm long, …
