An incomplete knapped, ground and polished stone axehead of late Neolithic date, c. 2700 - 2300 BC. The axehead is formed of a fine grained red/brown stone.
The axehead is sub-ovate in plan; narrower at the butt end with sides which widen to the crescentic cutting edge. The axe has a slight humped profile and a regular oval cross section. A large transverse break is present to one surface.
The blade end exhibits prominent crescentic polished facets to both sides reflecting how the cutting edge has been ground and sharpened.
It is impossible to source axes such as these wi…

A complete possible saddle quern handstone of basaltic composition of Neolithic date, c.4000 – 3000 BC.
The object is sub-ovate in plan and section with two flattened surfaces, likely formed by repeated grinding. One surface is fairly shallow while the second is more prominent and heavily worked with an approximately 45 degree angle. A large removal with two smaller adjacent removals, presumably accidental, are present to one edge of the large worked surface. A smaller chip is present at the opposite side of the smaller surface.

An incomplete stone axehead of Neolithic date (c. BC 3500-1200). The axehead is trapezoidal in plan with a pointed ovate section. The surfaces are smooth and polished, with some chips and edges missing from the both ends, which is likely to be caused by post-depositional damage. The long edges of the axehead have been faceted so that they appear rectangular.
The axehead is 100.7mm long, 53.8 to 36.6mm wide, 29.9mm thick and weighs 208g.

The central shaft hole is incomplete with one fairly deeply drilled recess on one side and a shallow notch on the opposite side. Large and deep negative scars have removed a portions of the ground surface of the axehead, significantly more on one side of the object, and are most probably due to post depositional processes. A Neolithic axe (or possibly an adze). The axe dates from between circa 3500 BC to 2100 BC. The implement has been extensively knapped and highly polished into a sub-oval shape. The stone is a fine-grained volcanic ash probably from the Lake District. One terminal is slightly pointed; the other (the butt) is rounded. Polished or ground stone axehead fashioned from a light greyish-green coarse stone. Neolithic, circa 3500 to 2100 BC, possibly a Langdale greenstone axe. Oval in section, tapered towards both rounded cutting edge and squared butt end. The axe has some minor later damage, and some chips in the cutting edge.
The axe is unsual in that it is divided into two areas - a polished half at the cutting edge end, and a rough, pitted half at the butt end. The two areas are clearly defined, and almost certainly deliberate (the pitting is perhaps to provide the butt with better grip).
