A blue glass annular bead of uncertain date, potentially Iron Age to early medieval, c. 600 BC - AD 800. The bead is sub-circular in plan and sub-oval in cross section, with an of centre circular perforation. The glass is of an opaque dark blue, containing very abundant air bubbles, some of which break the surface, and with internal spiralling bands of yellow-green colouration visible when viewed under bright light. There is a conchoidal break struck from the perforation on one face. Dimensions: diameter 22.9mm; diameter of perforation 7.5mm; thickness 11.8mm; weight 7.57g. The …

An incomplete blue glass bead of an Oldbury type. The object is bun shaped and is decorated with three white swirls. Only one half of the bead survives however it appears to be a modern break. The object appears to be capped, ie different glass on the outside and on the core, which is quite rare. The bead can be classified as Guideo Class 6, M.Guido, The Glass Beads of the Prehistoric and Roman Periods in Britain and Ireland (1978)53-57 and 112-117(schedules). Similar beads which can be found on the database are YORYM-7DAAE6 and LIN-3A9556.

A circular object, a possible bead. The bead is constructed of what appears to be polished jet. It is sub-discoidal in form and is pierced with a sub-circular hole through the centre (4.7 mm in diameter). The bead itself measures 19.3 mm in diameter. It has a flat underside and a rounded top. Such beads are difficult to date, however this example was found near to items of predominately late Iron Age and Roman date, so a similar date for this artefact seems likely.

A complete annular glass bead. It is monochrome, dull yellow/brown. It has a diameter of 16.5-18.1mm; it has an irregular circumference. The diameter of the perforation is 8.0mm. It is 7.0-9.3mm high and weighs 2.6g. The join is discernible, as is a hole created by an air bubble. Monochrome annular beads have been found in both late Iron Age and Roman contexts and are difficult to date precisely. Blue/green examples are the most common, but dark blue, yellow/brown and greenish colourless examples are also known.
