Silver, dull grey, possibly debased, coin. Penny of Henry VIII (as identified by finder), issue of 1514-1526, York and Durham mint. Obverse description: Sovereign type: facing monarch enthroned. Mintmark: star (23). Obverse inscription: HxDxGx[---]?SPLA? Reverse description: Long cross and shield of arms, ?E and D either side of shield. Reverse inscription: CIVI/TAS/DVR/RA?C; this appears to combine names of Durham and York. Diameter: 14mm, Weight: 0.62gms, die axis: 12.
