Lead or lead alloy pommel. A cast pommel with two short moulded arms. An oak leaf motif appears on front and back, rising above the arms. A rectangular impression in the lower end of the pommel measures 7.7mm by 4.7mm, where the tang of a blade was lodged; a similar rebate, partly burred over, lies adjacent, so pommel and hilt were presumably adjusted at some time. Though lead is apt to function as a counterweight, finishing is crude with prominent mould lines. The weapon whence this derives may have been of low or 'ammunition' quality. : Lead Alloy Possible Livery Badge. Cast plano-convex plate with a rectangular scar about 5mm square centrally on its flat back relating to attachment. The motif portrays a star or sunburst with sixteen rays, of which every fourth ray appears to have extended beyond its neighbours. The sunburst was a Yorkist badge under Edward IV (1461-1483), though the device of a star with streams (badge of the Lancastrian Earl of Oxford) was sufficiently similar to cause lethal confusion at the Battle of Barnet (1471). Lead alloy. Toy Dog. Naturalistically solid cast model of a sheepdog with discernible mould lines, probably 1:32 or 54mm scale. The assured modelling may suggest this to be either a Britains' product of the early to mid 20th century (farm figures and animals were manufactured in the period 1900-1914, and remained popular thereafter), or perhaps a later novelty copied from such a figure. Parts of two legs are now lost. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1960. Length: 32mm, Height: 24mm, Thickness: 8mm, Weight: 13.10gms.
