Lead Net Sinker. A cast cylindrical weight, apparently moulded around a former, with a central aperture of 7mm diameter. The weight was possibly used for fishing, either on a line or at the selvedge of a net. However, this object differs from numerous rolled lead net weights found in this area, as a net would need to be partially unravelled to attach this object directly, or the object would have to be independently attached. It is also more than twice as heavy as the largest known examples. Dating is accordingly uncertain. Suggested date: Roman to Post-Medieval, 40-1800. Length…

Glass, white (i.e. clear, but with a greenish tint) Possible Vessel fragment. Melted glass, with an angular corner which might suggest this comes from the base of a vessel, or from the corner of a thick pane. As there is no iridescence, this may either be a fragment of Roman soda glass or glass of much later date, but is unlikely to be Medieval or Early Post-Medieval potash glass. It is also uncertain whether this may represent glassworking, or simply the incorporation of glass shards in a bonfire. Date: Unknown, from Roman to Modern, 40-2000. Turquoise tinted clear glass Vessel fragment. Shard from the mould blown edge of a possibly rectangular vessel.possibly with a curving rib raised in relief on one surface. Numerous tiny round bubbles are trapped in the metal. There is light crazing on one external surface but no trace of iridescence. Copper alloy. Possible Ingot. Cast plano-convex fragment from an object with flat ends and tapering sides; broken at one end. This object resembles tongue-shaped ingots ascribed to the Late Iron Age, though other times, particularly in the Early Medieval period, might also see the reworking of scrap. As the object is broken, nothing can be adduced from its obviously incomplete weight. Suggested Date: Unknown, but possibly between Late Iron Age and Early Medieval, 300 BC to AD 1000. Length: 31.01mm, Width: 28mm, Thickness: 5.4mm, Weight: 23.45gms.

Copper alloy Possible Pin, as identified by finder. Cast pin with small bun-shaped sub-spherical head and a short thick tapered shank; corrosion leaves it uncertain whether a moulded collar lies between head and shank. The small head and thick shank distinguish this object from the majority of pins, whether used as dress fastening items - for which this example would be robust enough - or for pinning hair or veil. Suggested date: Roman to Early Medieval, 40-850. Length: 32.4mm, Diameter (head): 5.3mm, Weight: 1.75gms.

Lead Possible Weight, as identified by finder; if so, perhaps representing a short-measure averdepois ounce. Cast plano-convex or hemispherical object with tapered central perforation of maximum diameter 4mm and a broad rim and groove around this hole on the flat underside. However, David Haldenby notes that Viking Age weights he has recorded are not perforated (pers. comm., citing objects catalogued in Haldenby, D. and Richards, J.D. 2016, in Internet Archaeology no. 42). An alternative identification as a Hnafetafl piece might be entertained, as the hemispherical form and a hole …
