A Post-Medieval copper alloy Rose/Orb Nuremberg jetton, from the period 1515-1559, by master George Schultes.
Obverse: GEORG SCHVLTES IN NVRBERG; three crowns alternating with three lis, arranged centrifugally around a central rose
Reverse: Unsure of inscription; Imperial orb surmounted by cross within a three-arched tressure.
The jetton has suffered a bend over a quarter of its area and has a nice even patina.
Measurements: 24 mm in diameter, 1 mm in thickness and 1.3 g in weight.

An incomplete copper alloy jetton of post-medieval date, c. AD 1550-1555. It is a 'rose and orb' type Nuremberg jetton, probably issued by Jorg Schultes. The jetton has a crease across the flan where it has been possibly folded and unfolded. It is worn and corroded, and the reverse is illegible due to a coverage of deposition material. Small irregular fragments of the flan's edges have broken off and are now missing.
Diameter: 19.5 mm and weight: 0.84 g.

A complete copper alloy 'Venus penny' Jetton dating from AD1515-1559. Probably Iorg Schultes master AD 15-1559. Mitchiner (1988:392 no. 1299) is similar is style. Mitchiner (1988:265) writes "The 'Venus pennies' were a popular series of jettons, or reckoning counters, that were made for the merchants of Antwerp during a period when this city was the flourishing principal commercial centre of the land, and were circulated amongst the merchant classes during the first half of the sixteenth century.

A post-medieval, copper alloy jetton of Nuremberg, probably from the workshop of Iorg or Hans Schultes, dating from the 1550s. Rose orb type with a six petelled rose and a sinple tressure with an annulet in each outer angle of the tressure. The legends appear to be semi-literate. Compare Mitchiner number 1309 - 1341, but there is no exact match. It is 24.3mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick. It weighs 1.28g.

Minted at Nurermberg. See Mitchiner (1988) number 1309 - 1314, page 394 - 395. It is 24.2mm in diameter and 0.2mm thick. It weighs 0.8g. There are two holes in the flan. One, near the centre apperas to be a combination of wear and post depositional damage. The other is near the rim after SHULT and is a neat lozenge shape, perhaps for suspenion.
