A copper alloy biface unit of Eppillus of the Cantiaci, c.AD 1-15. Description: This a 'Eppillus Sqaure Eagle' bronze unit of the Cantiaci tribe of the Kent region. Obverse: Concave square around large pellet, 'EP PI CO MF' around. Reverse: Spread eagle standing, head right. Measurements: Diameter: 13.73 mm; Thickness: 2.18 mm and Weight: 1.46 g. Discussion: For this coin, see ABC 408 and VA 450. This coin is the first of its kind recorded on the PAS with photographs.

Copper alloy coin. Originally suggested to be a cast potin of the Cantii by this reporter. David Holman of Kent kindly comments: 'I don't think this is a potin. Although unique pieces do exist, I can't see any obvious sign of a sprue from the photos. The obverse looks very much like a struck bronze unit of Eppillus (ABC 408)'. The finder notes an opinion gleaned from his internet enquiries that the object may rather be a token of early post-medieval date.
