A very worn and torn silver sixpence of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603 AD). Although the coin is badly damaged and is torn nearly in half, much of the legend and reverse type are discernible, making a positive identification possible. Obv. legend reads: [ELIZAB DG] ANG [ET] HIB RE[GI]; bust completely worn. Rev. legend: [POS]VI DEV A[D]IVTOR[EM MEV]; Rev. type Long cross fourchee on flat topped royal shield. It measures 24.98 mm in diameter, 0.6 mm thick, and weighs 1.2 grams.

A heavily worn and damaged hammered coin. On the obverse the letters IZ are just visible as part of the legend and on the reverse a shield and the word POSVI can be seen. The coin is 19mm in diameter and in all likelihood is a half-groat or threepence from the reign of Elizabeth Ist 1558-1603.
