Large fragment of a Silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) fifth issue. The coin exhibits a ragged edge from post depositional damage. A radial crack travels from the left centre of the shield at an angle of 10 o'clock to the border. The surface of the coin is abraded. Obverse: Crowned bust, left, with rose behind. A very worn silver Tudor coin, possibly a Half Groat and probably of Elizabeth I (AD.1558-1603). The obverse is worn flat with no visible head or bust and the legend is illegible. The reverse shows signs of a long-cross fourchee over shield showing royal arms and only 15[..] of the date is visible above. The only part visible of the reverse legend is VI and could originally have read [POS]VI.[DEUM.ADJUTOREM.MEUM]. Die axis is unclear, weight is 0.83g, diameter is 17.9mm and thickness is 0.7mm.
