Possibly a worn threepence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), heavily worn with loss of all original detail and counter-stamped with the well-separated letters T C on one side, and folded to a flattened S profile. Folding in this manner, presumably as a keepsake, is more often reported of sixpences of William III (1694-1702); the suggestion of an earlier example is prompted by the size and weight of the flan. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1560-1582. Diameter: 18.8mm, Weight: 1.37gms
