A silver shilling of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), initial mark: cross and crosslet (1560-1561). Mint - London (Tower). The coin has a large diagonal crease and is partially split. The front face is heavily polished whilst the reverse is corroded. Scratched over the portrait of Elizabeth I on the obverse is a crude depiction of a profile of a face, with long swept back hair, pointed nose - and possibly wearing a hat. This has been scratched in using the point of a knife. North:1985
