A slightly clipped silver penny of Elizabeth I, AD 1558-1603.
Obverse shows a crowned bust left. Obverse legend reads E.D.G.ROSA.SINE.SPINA. Not enough of the obverse mint mark survives for its identification to be possible. Reverse shows a long cross fourchee over a royal shield. Reverse legend reads +CIVI/TAS/LON/DON. The reverse mint mark seens to be a cross, probably a Greek cross suggesting a date of AD 1578-1579. Die axis is 3 o'clock. Weight is 0.38g, diameter is 14.3mm, thickness is 0.4mm.

Obverse shows crowned bust left. Obverse initial mark is probably a martlet (AD 1560-61). Obverse legend reads E.D.G.ROS[E SIN]E SPINA . Reverse shows a square shield on long cross fourchee dividing the legend. Reverse initial mark is probably a martlet. Reverse legend reads CIVI/TAS/L[ON/DO]N . Die axis is 8 o'clock. Weight is 0.48g, diameter is 13.9mm, thickness is 0.4mm.

Obverse legend reads E.D.G. ROS[A]. Obverse shows crowned bust left, no rose behind head. Reverse legend reads CIVI/TAS/LON/DON. Reverse shows square topped shield. Reverse initial mark is a latin (long) cross which dates the coin to 1580-1581. Die axis is 6 o'clock. Weight is 0.5g, diameter is 13.67mm, thickness is 0.7mm.

A silver hammered penny of Elizabeth I, 1558-1603. Obverse shows crowned bust left. Obverse legend reads E.D. G. ROSA SINE SPINA. The mint mark is probably a hand which would place the coin in the fifth issue, 1582-1600 Spink 42nd Ed. p.235-247 or third coinage according to North, J.J. 1991 p.130-140, 1583-1603). Reverse shows the royal shield with a long cross fourchee dividing the legend. Reverse legend reads CIVI/TAS/LON/DON. Die axis is 12 o'clock, weight is 0.47g, diameter is 12.92mm, thickness is 0.60mm.
