A very worn and incomplete silver Roman denarius, probaby of late-1st century AD date and perhaps Vitellius (AD 69). Uncertain reverse type depicting a standing female figure left holding vertical sceptre in left hand and uncertain object in right (Libertas?). Uncertain mint. The coin has extensive pale green copper-alloy corrosion products covering alll surfaces, the original surfaces of the silver coin visible both in the old breaks and in small patches where the corrosion has been chipped away. Cf. RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 268, no. 10passim for a similar reverse type of Vitellius.

Robertson 2000, 11 no. 49: ""A hoard variously described as of thirty or forty, and about forty, coins was found on the Middleton housing estate, Leeds, by a tenant digging in his garden (37, Thorpe Road). According to press descriptions only one coin was legible, and this is described as a copper denarius of Nero. From the account of the legend, it appears that the ascription to Nero is correct.
