The obverse has been double stamped, reading MDP near the emperor's face. A plated copper alloy contemporary copy of a Roman solidus of Valentinian I dating to the period c. AD 364-367 (Reece period 19), RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE reverse type, depicting Emperor standing facing holding labarum and Victory on globe. Copying mint of Milan. Cf RIC Vol IX page 75, number 2(a). The copper alloy core is visible at 12 o'clock on the obverse and 6 o'clock on the reverse.

A gold solidus of Gratian (AD 367-383); VICTORIA AVGG reverse; minted at Milan during the mint's fourth period of AD 378-383. Ref: RIC Vol. IX, p. 77, no. 5d. The coin has little wear but it is slightly bent and scuffed at one point. It measures 20.6mm in diameter, 0.6mm thick and weighs 4.54g.
