An apparently new variety of a Roman copper alloy nummus of Constantine I, (AD 306-37), dating to AD 324-5 (Reece Period 16), Reverse: PROVIDENTIAE AVGG, Camp-Gate with 4 turrets (no star above?), Mint of Arles, T*AR. RIC VII, 264var The PROVIDENTIAE AVGG camp gate types at Arles are only recorded with two turrets; however the VIRTVS AVGG types have four, so it seems that the die-engraver got confused between the two. Dimensions: diameter 17.77mm; weight 2.06g This object is part of a much larger collection that was found over twenty-five years of fieldwalking over the same site.
