Copper alloy radiate (with some surviving silvering) of Carausius (AD 286-93) (Reece Period 14), FIDES EXERCIT, Four standards. C Mint, - // SPC. RIC V, pt  2, p. 489. no. 223.  It does appear that this is the first example of this coin known with this obverse legend - IMP C CARAVSIVS AVG - because RIC was confusing two other coins.  This is probably the first example of this precise type seen.

Note that MILITVM is incorrectly spelt as MTLITVM. One is in Paris and the other was sold at UBS 78 (9 9 2008), lot 1928. This coin shares the same obverse die as the UBS piece.

Mintmark - // (RSR).  There are possibly punctuation marks with the RSR mark. The coin is unusual style but is probably an official issue.  It is the ninth example of this coin which the author has recorded. The diameter is 18.8mm, the thickness is 1.2mm, weight is 3.0g

RIC V, pt 2, p. 521, no. 684. The mint for this coin has traditionally been given as Rouen, but it is quite likely that the mint moved with Carausius and might have even struck coins in Britain upon his arrival in the Province in AD 286/7.
