A medieval to early post-medieval lead weight. The weight is flat, shield shaped and decorated with three lions passant guardant, to the left, in relief within a shield-shaped field and surrounded by a raised border. There is a large, irregular hole at the top of the weight. This weight is a crude version of the 'official' design. A late Medieval- Post Medieval lead weight, possibly a trade weight. It is square in plan with rounded corners and edges, it is slightly domed. The weight has a flat bottom with no markings. The sides appear worn probably due to use. The upper surface is inlaid with two small pieces of copper alloy. The first is very small, measuring 2 mm x 1 mm, it sits flush with the surrounding lead. The second piece of copper alloy takes the shape of a triangle each side of which has an orb, each orb in turn contains a single pellet.

Its shape suggests it was used as a measure, and its pre-decimal weight of 1.02oz makes this likely. It has an off white patina. One side is smoother and flatter than the other. A flat circular cast copper alloy 2oz trade weight, with a raised rim on the upper surface. The centre of the weight is stamped "G HAYWARD MAKER HERTFORD" Adjacent to the stamped "2 oz" is an impressed Queen's crown and underneath this "VR" and "484" below. It actually weighs 1 and 7/8 oz or 56 grams. It measures 35mm across and is 6mm deep.

The front has a mangled design, the reverse is plain and flat. The design consists of folded in prongs all the way around the top. It is not sure if these were meant to project upwards originally.
