Lead weight. Cast discoid weight bearing a moulded circle on one face, surrounded by about 19 depressions; the finder suggests this may imitate the obverse of a medieval coin. Most discoid weights with circular designs weigh about two averdepois ounces, but this example is larger, close to seven ounces in weight. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350. Diameter: 60.3mm, Thickness: 6.7mm, Weight: 191.65gms

Lead weight, perhaps for a fishing line. Cast lead sheet, rolled or clenched, and patinated overall. The method of construction resembles that of Early Medieval net weights, but this would be too small to perform such a function. A broader medieval date range is suggested. Suggested date: Early Medieval to Medieval, 850-1500. Length: 18.7mm, Width: 8.7mm, Thickness (of sheet): 2.4mm, Weight: 5.21gms.

Lead possible weight. Cast lead sheet cut on four sides to produce an irregular cube. This may resemble the more carefully produced angular coin weights associated with Viking Age and Medieval contexts. It weights one tenth of an averdepois ounce. Suggested date: Early Medieval to Medieval, 900-1350. Length: 7.3mm, Width: 7.2mm, Thickness: 5.5mm, Weight: 2.75gms.

Lead weight. Discoid weight, perhaps intended to represent one (under-weight) averdepois ounce. The mass is closer to the early medieval ora/ore, which might permit the possibility of a Viking or Anglo-Scandinavian date. Patinated overall. Suggested date: Early Medieval to Medieval, 850-1350. Lead weight. Cast bun-shaped weight, patinated overall. The mass might qualify this as representing ten underweight Viking-Age units of 4.43gms, as used for the weighing of silver bullion. However, it is also common for medieval shield-shaped weights from London. Suggested date: Unknown, Early Medieval to Medieval, 850-1350. Diameter: 24.5mm, Height: 10.9mm, Weight: 46.93gms.

Lead hem weight (as identified by finder). Cast flat discoid weight with a central pair of stitching holes of diameter 2.2mm. The holes occupy a central stamped depression, and are divided by a low ridge, and surrounded by a billeted circumferential border. The object is now bent. Lead weight. Cast rectangular weight, with a border surrounding a sunken field on one side; a design in relief apparently depicts a crown with three pellets in a row beneath it. On the flat reverse, fine scratches appear to combine a cross and a saltire (as in the Union Jack). Though of a form distinct from shield-shaped weights bearing the leopards of England, whose quasi-official status is suspected, this object is similar in its mass to smaller members of that class. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1400. Length: 46.3gms, Width: 37.4mm, Thickness: 8.7mm, Weight: 127.93gms.

Lead, with iron traces, weight. Cast cylindrical weight with the possible stub of a suspension weight or other embedded object visible on its upper surface, and rust spots on lower surface. As found, the weight is a little under one averdepois ounce, or just over one ora/ore of the Viking period. Suggested date: Early Medieval to Medieval, 850-1100. Lead pump seal weight. Cast repair for a vessel of wall thickness 5.3mm; the outer side is cut from lead sheet of thickness 6.4mm. The heel-shaped form suggests this to be a weight to seal the chamber of a water pump.Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1900. Length: 38mm, Width: 30.1mm, Thickness: 14.7mm, Weight: 79.4gms.

Lead weight fragment. Cast sub-rectangular weight, with three edges neatly knife-trimmed and the fourth possibly broken or chipped. An embossed cast design features a six-pointed sun or star with streams, within a rhomboid border of closely-spaced pellets; the design may have been interrupted by the cutting of this object from a larger plaque. The style of sun or star resembles that of later medieval badges. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1450. Length: 23.3mm, Width: 18.3mm, Thickness (clear of design): 3.8mm, Weight: 12.39gms.

Lead, two line weights. Cast lead sheet, cut to a roughly circular shape and pierced; the larger object (a) centrally with a round-section point or tool of diameter 3.8mm, the smaller object (b) towards one edge with a more angular object, perhaps a nail or the tip of a knife. Both objects are patinated overall, including the edges of the perforations, and both are similarly lightly bent, approximately at their mid-points. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500. Dimensions: a) Length: 33.7mm, Width: 27.9mm, Thickness: 3.3mm, Weight: 19.23gms; b) Length: 24.5mm, Width: 22.7…
