A complete modern copper alloy solid discoidal trade weight, probably an apothecary weight, dating from the latter part of the 19th century. It is circular in plan with downward sloping sides and a raised bevelled rim. The upper face is stamped '8 DRAMS' with a verification mark of a crown with V R below at 10 o' clock. The underside is flat with a central hollow which was filled with lead, but it looks as though it has been in a fire (possibly stubble-burning?) as the lead has melted and spread over the base. The weight is generally a reddish brown colour, and it measures from 23.6mm…

A complete Medieval - Post Medieval lead shield shaped weight, dating to AD 1350-1900. The weight is sub-triangular with rounded edges and a raised boarder on one face. The shield is worn and damaged with no surviving decoration. The pointed edge of the shield has been pierced.
Length: 62.12 mm
Width: 50.61 mm
Thickness: 17.18 mm
Weight: 320 g
Biggs and Withers (2000, p.34-6) suggest that shield-shaped lead weights were introduced in the second half of the 14th century AD and remained in use as late as the 17th, 18th and even 19th centuries.

A small, plain, undecorated lead-alloy object, possibly a weight or spindle whorl of unknown date. The object has flat upper and lower surfaces and curved sides. The central aperture measures 4mm, suggesting an early date, although the object is very small for a spindle whorl. It measures 12mm in diameter, is 9mm in width and weighs 5.94g.
Simple lead weights like this were in use from the Roman to post-medieval periods so are hard to date.

A plain, undecorated lead-alloy weight or spindle whorl of unknown date. The object is conical in profile with a flat lower surface and straight sides. The upper surface is obliquely angled, but this may be due to past distortion of the object. The surface of the object is smooth with a brownish white patina. The central aperture measures 9mm, suggesting an early medieval date date if a spindle whorl. It measures 25mm in diameter, is 20mm in width and weighs 53.44g.

A circular lead weight of conical section, with flattened upper & lower faces and sides which slope gently outwards from c.15.0mm diameter at the top to c.19.8mm at the base. It is 21.2mm high, and has a straight-sided central perforation of c.3mm diameter. It weighs 45.2g and has a well-developed creamy white patination.
Weights of this type were in use for very long periods, and this could be any date from Roman to post-medieval, but the degree of patination would favour an earlier, possibly medieval, date.

Shield shaped lead weight of probable medieval date. It is in the form of a flat topped shield with a pointed base, and has a raised design of another shield positioned over the central lower two-thirds. This raised shield has a more rounded top which has a possible crown surmounting it, and it is decorated with cross-hatching. The item has an overall white patina and is very worn, with loss from the top right corner.
It weighs 33.9 g but has suffered around 10-20% loss, and would originally have weighed more,so it could conceivably have originally been an eighth of a pound.

A Medieval or post medieval cast lead alloy cup weight from a set of nested weights, dating from about AD 1300-1600.
The weight is a shallow bowl or cup. It has a circular base with the sides flaring up to a wider rim. Unlike other examples on the PAS database, there is no decoration and the cup is completely plain. It has a smooth yellow patina. It is 40.4mm diameter, 10.9mm high and the walls are 3.4mm thick. 56.2g. This mass is 1.98oz, so the weight was probably intended as a two ounce weight.

A probably post medieval lead weight.
A cast solid circular lead weight with sloping sides and a flat upper and irregular lower surface, suggesting that it was cast in a defective mould, white/light grey patinated overall. It is 27.5mm in diameter at the base, and 29.5mm at the top, and is up to 8.5mm thick, and weighs 44.4g.
Suggested date range for this object would be medieval to post-medieval, c.1300-1700, but it could be any date from Roman to post medieval, and the degree of patination could probably suggest a later date.

The weight is creamy grey with three spots of rust staining (although there does not appear to be any iron inclusion), and surfaces are generally worn, with no decoration visible.

Post medieval hem or curtain weight. It is made of c2mm thick lead sheet, and is round in plan - it measures 44.8mm in diameter and weighs 24.5g. There are two c2.5mm diameter holes which appear to have been pierced rather than cast. These are roughly central, 7.5mm apart, 16.5 & 21mm in from the nearest edge, and were presumably used to attach the item to fabric.
The item has light grey patination.

Medieval lead alloy weight, 54mm in length, 43mm wide, 6mm thick with a weight of 149g.
The object is shield shaped (sub triangular) and rectangular in cross section. It is very worn/mis-cast and has a raised design of a shield outline with a central inscription of IHS? in each corner, outside the shield motif, are two or three raised semi-spheres.
Given the inscription and design the object is likely to be Medieval, but could be later.

Cast lead weight. It is round in plan and has convex sides and is flattened at the top and bottom, with a tapered perforation of from c.4.0 to 5.5mm in diameter. The side with the smaller aperture appears to have had an oblique slice removed as the surface is not parallel to the other flattened face.
It has a uniform light grey patination and is 17.5mm in diameter and 15.1mm high, and it weighs 22.4g.
Probably used as a 1 ounce weight, and probably dates from the late medieval or post medieval period.
