Lead alloy weight of late medieval or early post medieval date. These weights are widely known as 'spindle whorls' and have been found in archaeological contexts of the late medieval period, but it possible that they had a much wider use, such as as netsinkers or weights for traps. This example is of roughly double conical shape with moulded decoration on both surfaces. It is unusual, however, that the outer rim is decorated with a 'moulded rope' ornament. Post Medieval copper alloy trade weight, 21mm in diameter and 3mm thick. The object is in good condition with a brown patina and weighs 6.4grams. It has a lipped upper edge surrounding a flat surface which is stamped with a ewer and a sword, the marks of the London trade guild. The weight is dated by the st. Georges cross contained within a shield, the mark of the Commonwealth.

Shaped lead standing weight. Medieval. The base is roughly circular, the sides of the body have been flattened slightly, making it roughly square in section. Vertical lines have been etched around the body for decoration. The body narrows towards the top, which has been shaped at the apex to create a suspension loop. The loop is for storage purposes. The hole is 4mm in diameter.

Hand formed lead Medieval standing weight. 13th Century. A roughly pyramidal shaped weight with a square base. The corners of the body have been bevelled. The suspension loop and the body are cast as one, the top of the body neing simply flattened out and pierced. The hole is 5mm in diameter.

Lead net weight. Probably 13th Century. Circular lead disc with 8 holes pierced around the edge and one large central hole peirced in the centre. This arrangement allows the weight to be tied securely to the net. The reverse of the weight has a horizontal line worn into it where the string has abraded the surface.
