A copper alloy weight of Post-Medieval date, possibly dating from the reigns of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) to George I (AD 1714-1727). The weight is circular in plan with an incised circumferential border. The front face is marked with a series of stamps: these include the dagger or sword of the London Guildhall, an inverted crown without an initial and the ewer (coffee pot) of the Worshipful Company of Founders. The stamps are similar to IOW-3646BE, discovered on the Isle of Wight which gives a probable dating based on similar examples in Biggs (1996). The reverse i…

Cast lead disc weight. Plain circular disc, slightly concave on the reverse (base), casting mark in the centre of the upper surface, also some iron staining on the obverse (possibly from an iron loop inserted into the weight - the stub of this may survive, although this is unclear). The edges are slightly bevelled, sloping inwards towards the reverse. Diameter 34.13mm, thickness uneven 5.8-7.4mm, weight 48.19g. This may be a 1/8lb weight, slightly light under the Mercantile systems (54.6g or 58.3g; in use from before 1300), the Avoirdupois systems (53.2g (in use from pre 1280) or 56…
