Lead trade weight, traces of one punched design, perhaps the castle and lion of the city of Norwich, now flattened, two deep rectangular punches into the central area of the weight, one of which has pierced through the weight entirely, late 16th to 17th century. It weighs 100.99g so presumably for four ounces.

Circular lead trade weight, uniface with a large crowned IR puncheon centrally and an uncertain punch mark above it. The weight of 24.68g suggests that this is somewhat underweight for an ounce. Period of James I, 1603-25.

Possible weight, of sub-square plan with radiused corners, it appears that the straight sides have been hammered as the edges expand, an off-centre, sub rectangular perforation has been punched through the weight, four deeply punched flower/sun motifs decorate one face, each stamp has a central, circular element with eleven radiating “petals” or “rays”. Possibly an unofficial ¼ oz weight, maybe the stamps are an attempt to legitimise/make official its use, denote a certain unit(s) of weight, or are simply decorative. Medieval to Post Medieval, 1066-1900 AD.

A complete lead-alloy weight dating from the Roman to Post Medieval period (43-1800 AD). In plan the weight is broadly trapezoidal with concave top and bottom to the weight, the sides are incised with two lines following the outer (long) edges, the outer parts obscured, rectangular in section, two holes are included in the cast, probably to facilitate suspension, one at each end. Weight equates to 7 3/4 ounces, probably intended as an 8 oz weight. Cf. WREX-F979D1 for a broadly similar but lighter example.

A post-medieval cast lead cylinder, possibly a weight. The ends are flat, and the object is undecorated. Similar to LVPL-10B98E, which speculates that these objects might have been used as a supplementary load for a 17th-century smoothbore muzzle-loading firearm. Length 15.8mm, diameter 17.8mm. Possibly medieval lead standing weight, very roughly circular at the base and tapering upwards to a flattened terminal with a transverse 2mm-diameter perforation. The surface of the base makes it clear that the object was not cast but rolled and hammered into shape from a piece of thick sheet. Height 24.5mm. Basal diameter 12 – 15mm. Weight 19.26g. This does not correlate with either the Troy (0.619oz) or Avoirdupois systems (0.679oz). Perhaps 13th – 15th century.

A lead weight of probable Roman date (c.AD 43-410). The weight is circular in plan and rectangular in section. Its face is inscribed with the Roman numerals 'IIII', the reverse is undecorated. A similar example can be found on p16 Biggs and Withers (2000). It is worth noting that while this style of weight was introduced in the Roman period it was also used well into the modern period making the Roman date uncertain.  Dimensions: Diameter 44.4mm, Thickness 7.3mm, Weight 110.00g

Medieval or post-medieval discoidal lead weight for 1½ Troy ounces . Near the centre of one face a simple short engraved line might be interpreted as the number 1. On the other face are four longer and narrower lines apparently scratched with a sharp implement. The surfaces are weathered and there are patches of recent damage, though no metal has been lost.  Diameter 34.5mm. Thickness 5.5mm. Weight 46.68g / 720.4 grains / 30.02 pennyweights / 1.501oz. 13th - 17th century.

Rectangular lead weight with a sub-circular hole in the centre of one broad face which fails to penetrate the full thickness. The surfaces are quite weathered and there are patches of recent damage. Weight 243.32g / 3754.2 grains. Length 51.5mm. Width 36.7mm. Thickness 16mm. There is no clear correlation with either the Troy or Avoirdupois systems. Of uncertain function and probably medieval or post-medieval, perhaps 13th - 18th century.
