A copper alloy artefact, probably a strap end of the folded sheet type, dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1250 - 1400. It is constructed from a strip of sheet copper alloy, folded over roughly half way along its length. In the centre of one end of the strip is a circular, domed extension; the other end tapers to a blunt point. It is rectangular in plan, with rounded shoulders at the closed end, flanking a cast knob perhaps in the form of an acorn. The knop is thicker than the plate. There is no evidence of rivets. The attachment end is incomplete. The strap end is 28.5mm long, 11.5mm wide and 1.9mm thick. 1.2g. Compare various types in Egan and Pritchard (1991).

A worn, near complete copper-alloy Anglo-Scandinavian strap-end, dating from about AD 1000-1100. The strap-end consists of a narrow body with a bifurcated attachment-end which survives almost intact, with a copper alloy rivet. The shaft is almost square in cross section, and at the terminal end, expands into a zoomorphic animal head. The strap end appears to be of Thomas's Class B type 6 which is defined by having an beast head terminal seen from the side.
