A fragment of cast copper-alloy openwork strap-end, probably dating to the late Early-Medieval period c. AD 900-1100.  Due to the fragmentary nature it has not been possible to confidently identify the type.  The fragment consists of a portion of the main body of the strap-end, is sub-rectangular in shape with three open-work circles and decorated with incised lines that swirl around the open-work features.

Description: The strap end fragment is created from a sheet of copper-alloy, folded over the outer edge to form a hollow trapezoidal shape, with a set of arms extending from one edge. A rivet secures the arms to each other and would have allowed material to have been secured between them. Evidence of break damage suggests there would have been a corresponding set of arms on the other edge, so the strap end would have resembled a U shape.
