An incomplete and bent silver Early Medieval strap end of Thomas Class A, Type 1, with Trewhiddle style zoomorphic decoration. The rear end is missing. The front of the object has incised decoration in the form of a sinuous beast advancing along the length of the strap end, probably with its head towards the rear end. This design was likely inlaid with niello. The terminal is in the form of a stylised beast head, with rounded eyes with inverted v-shaped pupils and a triangular motif delineating the snout. Circa 9th to early 10th century AD.

An incomplete sheet copper alloy buckle plate strap end of medieval date. The plate is broadly tongue-shaped in plan with one straight and one pointed terminal. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with a pattern of engraved zigzags ('rocker-arm') in a herring bone arrangement. There are two separate copper alloy rivets either side of a circular hole; an indentation through this hole suggests wear from a pin. The reverse of the sheet is plain - this is probably part of a two-piece, composite strap end / buckle dating to the period AD 1250-1400. For a strap-end with similar deco…

A Roman copper alloy strap end with a nail cleaner terminal. The strap end has a hipped body and a possible loop on the upper end but the forked terminal is missing. The strap end is decorated with bordering lines of punched dots and crescents. This is one of Crummy and Eckardt's nail-cleaner strap ends (Crummy and Eckardt 2006) and is similar to nos. 112 and 1136. Such strap ends have a largely southern distirbution and appear to be of lagter 4th century date.

A copper-alloy strap-end of Early Medieval date. The strap-end is of flat section and broadly 'tongue' shaped, its straight lower sides converging to a rounded, undecorated, terminal. The surfaces of the body are also smooth and display no signs of decoration. At the top survives one of the two original attachment plates, with rivet holes at its top right- and left-hand corners, respectively. The form of this strap-end is similar to that of Gabor Thomas's Class A (2003: 2), suggesting a date of late 8th to 10th century.

An incomplete copper-alloy strap-end of late medieval date. The body of the strap-end is hollow, providing a slot into which the now-missing strap would have fitted. The strap-end appears to have been made in one piece, with decoration confined to the upper surface. The upper face is decorated with the incised letters 'ihc,' executed in Gothic script and aligned horizontally. A transverse ridge, diagonally grooved to create a ropework appearance, extends along the top edge of the upper surface, where the opening to the strap slot is located. Two narrower ridges, separated by a cent…
